“The website does not generate enquiries” is a conclusion, not a diagnosis. It may receive unsuitable traffic, fail to explain the offer or establish trust, ask visitors to take too big a step, or pass enquiries to a sales process that does not respond.
1. Are the right people arriving?
Before judging colours and layout, check search queries, campaigns, referrals and entry pages. A larger call to action cannot fix large volumes of irrelevant traffic. Search Console and Analytics help, but their data needs to be connected to lead quality.
2. Do visitors understand the problem you solve?
Many websites begin with history, values and service lists. Visitors want to recognise their situation, understand the outcome and assess the risk. The page should use the language of their problem without alarmism or impossible promises.
3. Is there enough trust?
Case studies, process, identity, boundaries, indicative prices, authorship and company details reduce uncertainty. Unverifiable logos and numbers do the opposite. Trust also depends on mobile usability, speed, clarity and the absence of errors.
4. Is the next step proportionate?
Asking someone to book a call while they are still exploring may be premature. A clearly priced diagnosis, a consultation or a brief may be better starting points. Urgent enquiries need a short, visible route.
5. Do the form and follow-up work?
Check delivery and recording technically. Then measure response time, assignment and quality. A website can generate a lead that is lost minutes later in the internal process.
A diagnostic map
- Little relevant traffic: acquisition and positioning.
- Visits without understanding: message and information architecture.
- Interest without trust: evidence, content and transparency.
- Calls to action without completion: experience and friction.
- Submissions without sales: qualification and the sales process.
When rebuilding makes sense
A custom project makes sense when the same structure blocks several layers, the technology prevents performance or integration, or management cannot evolve. If the problem is isolated, a targeted fix may deliver value sooner with less risk.
